About Headwest

Our Background

Headwest was started in 1980 and was called 'The Head Injury Society of WA Inc'. Until 1995, Headwest provided day activities for people with an Acquired Brain Injury. From 1995 Headwest has refocused its activities and provides advocacy, referral, information, community education and produces publications
with the purpose of promoting greater community awareness of the impact of acquired brain injury on individuals, families, carers and friends throughout Western Australia. Headwest is guided by the belief
that people with an Acquired Brain Injury should be treated with dignity and respect, and be supported
to achieve the greatest degree of independence possible, in their participation of activities and
opportunities available to the community of which they are a part.

Our Mission

Headwest’s mission is to provide advocacy services for people dealing with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).
This includes people with an (ABI), their carers and their families. We are the peak industry body. Our philosophy is guided by our fundamental belief in human rights. People with disabilities often have to
work with a large number of systems in their lives. These systems can range from social security to
vocational rehabilitation and health services, from the public schools to private employers. We provide individual, system, peer and self advocacy services to support them in these activities.
